Reopening of Colruyt Diest: refreshed store with a brand-new in-house bakery
On Wednesday 8 October 2025, the Colruyt Lowest Prices store in Diest will reopen its doors. At the store on Leuvensesteenweg, the brand-new in-house bakery immediately catches the eye — customers can watch the team at work. 32 new varieties of bread rolls, pastries, savoury snacks and bread will be baked on site at the lowest prices, and six of them are proved and baked on site. The butcher’s department has also been renewed and the store layout optimised. Shoppers can once again pick up their groceries at the Collect&Go pick-up point. Sustainability was also a key focus during the renovation works. A team of 43 store employees and 9 butchers are ready to welcome customers to the refurbished store.
Extensive range of oven-fresh products
Shopping at Colruyt Diest is now even more pleasant and efficient, thanks to an optimised store layout that spans 2,000 m². New this time is the aroma of freshly baked bread greeting customers as they enter. Next to the fresh market area, shoppers can look straight into the spacious, brand-new bakery. Baguettes, small rolls, pastries, savoury snacks and various breads are baked fresh on site. In addition, six products — including baguettes, bread rolls and piccolo rolls — are proved and baked on site, resulting in an even lighter, crispier product. With this pilot project, Colruyt aims to determine which selection best meets customer needs. The lowest prices remain guaranteed, also for the bread range.
It’s not just customers who can enjoy something new — the staff are also developing new skills. Store manager Marc Boons: “In our pilot stores, we’ve formed a bakery team of colleagues eager for a new challenge. They receive specific training to further develop their skills and interests. Bread is baked just before the store opens, giving it a wonderfully crisp crust. Fresh batches of bread, baguettes and pastries are baked throughout the day to offer customers the freshest possible products and the best quality.”
Optimised store layout and renewed butcher’s department
Customers will notice several changes in the butcher’s department. For example, the selection of cold cuts has now been integrated into the updated butcher’s department. Like the fresh meat, everything is neatly displayed in closed, transparent refrigerators. Store manager Marc Boons: “Customers can find all their meat products — freshly prepared every day by our butchers — in one central area. They can also see the butchers at work in the open workshop and easily approach them with any questions or special requests.”
Welcome back to Collect&Go
Customers who prefer to pick up their groceries directly can do so at the Collect&Go pick-up point in Colruyt Diest. The new bread range can also be ordered via Collect&Go. Collect&Go is Colruyt Group’s convenient online grocery service. Customers simply send their shopping list via collectandgo.be or the Xtra app. Our staff then prepare the order to be picked up at the selected pick-up time. Customers can also opt for home delivery, using Drivers — local private couriers.
Extra focus on sustainability
Sustainable building is a key priority for Colruyt Group, and it was central to the renovation of Colruyt Diest. The lighting has been replaced with energy-efficient LED lamps equipped with motion sensors, cutting energy use by up to 30%. As for heating, 75% of the residual heat from the refrigeration system is recovered via the ventilation system. Rainwater is used to flush toilets and for cleaning. Sustainability is also applied to the car park: there are nine new, extra-wide bicycle stands providing space for 18 bikes, and a charging point for two cars. The car park offers a total of 287 spaces.
Festive reopening on Tuesday 7 October
Marc Boons: “Together with my team of 43 co-workers and 9 butchers, I look forward to welcoming our customers back. That starts on Tuesday evening already, as they’ll get an exclusive preview of the store with drinks and snacks. It’s the first opportunity for customers to taste our new bread range.”
