Reopening Colruyt Geel: renovation with an eye for sustainability

On Wednesday 11 September 2024, the Colruyt Lowest Prices store in Geel will reopen its doors. The store on Antwerpsesteenweg was treated to an optimised shopping route, a renewed butcher’s section and brand-new bread cabinet. What's more, sustainability was at the heart of the renovations. Colruyt Geel customers will now find it even more enjoyable to shop or to collect their shopping at the Collect&Go collection point. And that, as always, at the lowest prices.

Renewed butcher's section and new bread cabinet

From now on, shopping at Colruyt Geel is even more enjoyable and efficient thanks to the optimised shopping route that covers no less than 2,006 m² of retail space. Store manager Violeta Lumi: "The butcher's section was expanded to about 99 m². We are testing a new set-up of the butcher's section, presenting fish and veggie alongside the meat products. This makes choosing easy and convenient for customers. The open workshop on the other hand makes it easy for customers to approach the butchers with questions or special orders." The brand-new bread cabinet is also worth checking out. It allows the products to retain their quality longer. Also, customers can print the bar code for the bread they choose, which saves time at the checkout.

Welcome back to Collect&Go

Customers once again have a Collect&Go collection point at their disposal in Geel. Collect&Go is Colruyt Group's convenient online shopping service. Customers send in their shopping list via collectandgo.be, the Xtra app, or the Collect&Go app. Store co-workers have their products ready at the collection point by the day and time of the customer’s choice.

Extra focus on sustainability

The store in Geel has energy-efficient LED lights with sensors everywhere, saving up to 30% energy. The residual heat from the cooling system is recovered and as much as 75% is reused by the ventilation system to heat the store. Rainwater is used to flush the toilets and solar panels on the roof allow the store to generate its own green energy. The outdoor car park features five extra wide bike racks where (cargo) bikes can be attached easily and securely. Seven more bike racks are available in the covered car park. The dual charging station allows customers driving an electric car to recharge while shopping.

Opening night on Tuesday 10 September

Store manager Violeta Lumi: “We and the entire team of 55 store co-workers and 11 butchers are looking forward to welcoming back our customers. We are happy to invite them to be the first to discover the renewed store during our open house from 17 p.m. to 20 p.m. on Tuesday 10 September. See you then!”
