Renewed Spar Colruyt Group in Malderen reopens on 29 June

After four weeks of renovation works, the renovated Spar Colruyt Group store in the centre of Malderen will reopen on Thursday 29 June. The neighbourhood supermarket was completely renovated in the style of the latest generation of Spar stores, with great attention to sustainability and an attractive new interior. Store manager Sven Ryckaert and his team are pleased to welcome back their customers with a festive reception and plenty of discounts.

Low-energy store

The Spar store on Lippelostraat remained closed for four weeks for a thorough renovation. The store was renovated with an eye towards sustainability. Only environmentally friendly materials and energy-efficient installations were used in the renovations. For instance, solar panels were added and the cooling cabinets were equipped with doors. This reduces the amount of cold air that escapes, requiring less energy to cool the furniture and reheat the shop. For the butcher's shop, a brand-new and perfectly insulated workshop was built.

New layout with a focus on fresh

To improve the customer's shopping experience, the store layout was adapted and the interior was given a modern look. "We opted for a completely new layout. When you enter the store, you first discover our bread, which is freshly baked daily," Sven Ryckaert says. The baguettes and bread rolls rise on site in special cabinets and are then baked-off by the co-workers. Thanks to these new cabinets and ovens, Spar Malderen can entice its customers with delicious fresh sandwiches every day.

​Besides bread, Spar Malderen offers an even wider range of fresh produce and catering products. ​ The home-made dishes and butcher's shop products have always been greatly appreciated by Spar Malderen's regular customers. They are again certain to find something to satisfy their cravings in the renovated store's range of tasty, fresh, high-quality products. "Our butcher's department is and remains our showpiece, providing customers with their favourite specialties: home-made pudding, stew and quality beef."

Longer opening hours

The team's commitment to serve its customers even better also clearly shows from the extended opening hours of Spar Malderen. The store is open from Monday to Saturday until 7 p.m. and also opens half an hour earlier than before: at 1 p.m. on Mondays and at 8 a.m. during the rest of the week. You can also shop at Spar Malderen on Sundays and holidays, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Top team from the region

The neighbourhood store in Malderen was operated by the Meert family for four generations, but the store passed into other hands last year. Daughter Demi and her partner Maarten remained on board and are still part of the Spar team in Malderen today. That team now consists of about 25 co-workers, student workers and flexi-job workers. "The majority are people from the area. Some have been working here for more than 20 years, a good mix of young people and old hands in the trade," Sven says.

Opening reception with a snack and a drink

On Wednesday 28 June, customers can come and rediscover their familiar store at a festive reception. "With the store having been closed for four weeks, curiosity will be high. We are therefore happy to treat our customers to snacks and drinks. Those who wish can even take a small tour," Sven says.

​As from Thursday 29 June, everyone can again do their shopping at Spar Malderen. During the opening week, there will also be a special folder with some great discounts and promotions. "You can immediately expect discounts in all departments, but make sure to check out the butcher's shop and catering products," Sven reveals.
