Renewed Okay Paal to reopen as a sustainable local supermarket on 25 September

With renovated bread corner, refurbished freshmart and additional cooling cabinets

On Wednesday 25 September, Okay Paal, located on Paalsesteenweg, will reopen its doors after undergoing a thorough facelift. The local supermarket with a 650 m² store surface area has been renovated in the style of the latest generation of Okay stores and has undergone several improvements including a renovated bread corner, a refurbished freshmart, additional cooling cabinets and a revamped checkout area. During the renovation, considerable efforts were made to minimise the environmental footprint. Store manager Hilde Wijnants and her team look forward to welcoming back their customers.

Focus on fresh products and daily fresh bread

The fresh and modern look of Okay Paal is designed to help customers find their way around the varied fresh products range. "In the revamped freshmart, it's easy to choose from our ample offer of fruit and vegetables, dairy, meat, charcuterie, fish and ready-made meals, all tasty and fresh like you're used to at Okay," store manager Hilde explains. "Right outside the freshmart, we've also installed some additional cooling cabinets, offering an extensive choice of meat, fish and vegetarian appetisers to enjoy with family or friends."

In Okay Paal, the store personnel bakes off quality bread, breakfast rolls and buns on site several times a day, which are all neatly and orderly displayed in the well-organised and renewed bread corner. "Also in the frozen food department, customers find their favourite products in no time thanks to the energy-efficient chest-type freezers with glass lids. The checkout area also received an overhaul making payment at the checkout even smoother and faster”, Hilde explains.

All these novelties and improvements contribute to a more pleasant shopping experience and make shopping even more efficient. "And every day, a great team of 12 motivated employees is ready to help our customers. All of them local people, for whom customer friendliness, good service and helpfulness always come first.

Minimal environmental impact

Like the other Colruyt Group store formats, Okay Paal is firmly committed to building sustainably and with a minimal ecological footprint. No gas or fuel oil is used at Okay Paal: all energy is generated with the own solar panels. The store's eco-friendly cooling emits 90% less CO2 than conventional cooling installations and the heat released by the cooling system is recovered to heat the store. The car park is paved with water-permeable paving stones, allowing rainwater to steadily seep into the ground to replenish the soil water, thus also relieving the sewer system.

Easy to reach by car and bicycle

Okay Paal has a very practical location on the Paalsesteenweg, a broad connecting road between the E313 exit and the village centre: easily reachable for everyone. The spacious and practical car park has room for 55 vehicles and bikes can safely be secured in the bicycle shed, also cargo bikes. The car park is also equipped with two charging posts for electric vehicles.
