On Wednesday 9 September 2026, the Colruyt Lowest Prices store in Leuven will reopen its doors. The store on Lombaardenstraat has been upgraded with a renovated butcher’s section and a new bread unit. The store layout has also been optimised to make shopping even more pleasant while continuing to offer the lowest prices. A new addition is the Sushi Corner, offering a variety of Asian specialities. Sustainability was a key focus throughout the works. A team of 32 store employees and 4 butchers is ready to welcome customers to the renovated store.
Optimised shopping route and renewed butcher’s section
Shopping at Colruyt Leuven is now even more pleasant and efficient thanks to the optimised shopping route across 1,500 m² of retail space. Customers will notice several improvements in the butcher’s department. For example, the charcuterie range from the fresh market has been incorporated into the renovated butcher’s section and is clearly displayed in more sustainable refrigerated cabinets. Store manager Tom Smets: “From now on, customers will find their fresh meat, carefully prepared by our butchers every day, and charcuterie all in one place. They can also see the butchers at work in the open workshop and easily approach them with any questions or special orders.”
The bread unit has also been upgraded to guarantee the quality of the fresh bread and speed up checkout. In addition, the store now has a Sushi Corner offering a variety of Asian specialities.
Extra focus on sustainability
Sustainable building is essential to Colruyt Group. This was therefore a key consideration in the renovation of Colruyt Leuven. The lighting consists of energy-efficient LED lamps fitted with sensors, reducing energy consumption by up to 30%. We are also investing in a new refrigeration system that uses heat recovery to heat the store. For refrigeration, we use propane, which reduces its CO₂ footprint by more than 90%. In addition, the store generates its own energy using solar panels on the roof.
The car park also reflects this focus on sustainability, with 46 extra-wide bicycle racks providing space for 95 bicycles, as well as 9 charging points for electric cars. The car park has 105 parking spaces.

Tom Smets: “Together with my team of 31 store employees and 4 butchers, I look forward to welcoming our customers. During the opening week, we will be offering extra tastings, and in the first few weeks we will be treating our customers to welcome discounts. We invite everyone to come and discover our renovated store, and we will be happy to help them.”
Students welcome at the start of the academic year
The reopening of Colruyt Leuven coincides with the start of the new academic year. That is why the store will also welcome Leuven students on Monday 21/09 with a special welcome promotion. This will give them the opportunity to discover the renovated store while getting the new academic year off to a good start.
