Okay Opens Sustainable Neighbourhood Supermarket in Vorst-Laakdal
Also Open on Sunday Mornings
Tuesday, April 7, 2026
On Friday 10 April, Okay will open a brand-new store in Vorst-Laakdal. In this convenient neighbourhood supermarket at Nieuwe Baan 60, customers will find a varied range of products for any time of the day. The store covers 586 m² and has been built using sustainable techniques and material. Store manager Melissa Van Mol and the team of Okay Vorst-Laakdal look forward to welcoming their new customers.
Convenient and Fresh
The local supermarket is part of Colruyt Group's newest generation of Okay stores and features a fresh, modern design. Customers will find everything they need under one roof, from fresh meat, fish, and vegetarian options, to ready-made meals and meal salads. They can also shop for newspapers, magazines, gift baskets etc. The store has three self-checkouts, allowing customers to scan and pay for their purchases quickly and easy.
The range of fresh products is one of Okay's greatest strengths. “In our freshmart, the wide aisles and glass wall create a pleasant shopping experience. It's easy to choose from our wide range of fruit and vegetables, always fresh and replenished throughout the day. Just outside the freshmart, you'll find a chilled tapas cabinet with everything you need for a perfect aperitif evening: meat, fish or vegetarian options. We have snacks to suit every taste," says store manager Melissa.
At Okay Vorst-Laakdal, fresh bread is delivered every day, and a large part of the range is baked fresh in-store by the team. High-quality pastries and rolls also come fresh out of the oven several times a day. "Our bread corner is designed to be highly ergonomic, is well-arranged, making it very user-friendly for both customers and staff." In the frozen food department, chest freezers with glass lids make it easy for customers to quickly find their favourite products.
Promotions and Discounts
At Okay, customers always shop at the lowest prices in the neighbourhood. With Xtra, they receive additional promotions on top — automatically applied after scanning the Xtra app at the checkout.
Minimal Environmental Impact
Like all Colruyt Group formats, Okay is strongly committed to sustainable construction with minimal environmental impact. "This store runs entirely on green electricity, we do not use gas or heating oil and we generate our own energy with solar panels," Melissa explains. "Our environmentally friendly cooling technology produces 90% fewer CO₂ emissions than a traditional refrigeration system, and we recover the heat generated by the refrigeration and ventilation system to heat the store." Rainwater management is also considered. "The car park is paved with water-permeable bricks, allowing rainwater to seep into the ground more easily," Melissa continues. "We also collect excess rainwater and allow it to infiltrate slowly into the ground. This helps replenish groundwater and reduces pressure on the sewer system during heavy rainfall.”
Easy Access
The new Okay store is conveniently located at the junction of Smissestraat and Nieuwe Baan. The easily accessible car park offers space for 47 cars, including two DATS 24 charging points, one of which is a fast charger. Cyclists can use the bike parking area, which also has space for cargo bikes.
Festive Opening
The festive opening of Okay Vorst-Laakdal will take place on 10 April. During the opening, customers can enjoy food trucks, tastings galore and fantastic opening discounts.
