Okay opens new neighbourhood supermarket in Lembeek

On Friday 6 March, Okay will open a brand-new store in Lembeek. The opening is also a special moment for Colruyt Group: Lembeek is the place where it all began for the retail group almost 100 years ago. With the arrival of the new neighbourhood supermarket, the municipality once again has a local store nearby – something residents have been looking forward to for quite some time. They will also be able to do their shopping there on Sunday mornings. Store manager Tamara Vernaillen and her team are looking forward to welcoming their customers.

Brand new, with a long history

The brand-new Okay neighbourhood supermarket stands on a special site with a rich history. Lembeek is the place where it all began for Colruyt Group almost 100 years ago. Franz Colruyt started his trade in colonial goods there and laid the foundations for the group as we know it today. ​

During the construction works, another piece of local history also came to light: remains of an 18^th-century military road were discovered. The necessary archaeological investigations were carried out following the discovery.

Convenient and fresh

In the bright, modernly designed neighbourhood supermarket at Stationsstraat 43, customers will find an extensive range of products on 600 m², guaranteed ​ to be the cheapest in the area. Customers can easily find everything they need under one roof: from meat, fish and vegetarian options to fresh fruit and vegetables, ready-made meals and meal salads.

The range of fresh products is one of Okay’s greatest strengths. “In our freshmart, the wide aisles and glass wall create a pleasant shopping experience. It's easy to choose from our wide range of fruit and vegetables, always fresh and replenished throughout the day. Just outside the freshmart, you'll find a chilled tapas cabinet with everything for a perfect aperitif evening: meat, fish or vegetarian. We have snacks to suit everyone’s taste, and we are also open on Sunday mornings for anyone who enjoys breakfast with a fresh pastry,” says store manager Tamara.

Clear and well-organised bread corner and convenient chest freezers

At Okay Lembeek, store employees bake high-quality bread, pastries and rolls several times a day. All of these can be found in the clear and well-organised bread corner. "And in the frozen food department, our customers can quickly find their favourite products, thanks to energy-efficient chest freezers with glass lids," adds Tamara.

Promotions and Discounts

At Okay, customers always shop at the cheapest prices in the neighbourhood. With Xtra, they receive additional promotions on top — automatically applied after scanning the Xtra app at the checkout.

Minimal Environmental Impact

Like the other Colruyt Group retail formats, Okay attaches great importance to sustainable construction with the lowest possible environmental impact. The new store in Lembeek also runs entirely on green electricity.“We do not use gas or heating oil here and generate our energy via solar panels,” Tamara explains. “In addition, our green roof and the paint used on the façade contribute to better air quality. ​ During heavy rainfall, we collect the water and allow it to slowly seep into the ground through a wadi, helping to replenish groundwater.”

Easy access

The new Okay store is located on Stationsstraat, close to the Bergensesteenweg. The easily accessible car park has space for 48 cars, including 1 AC charging point and 1 DC fast charger from DATS 24. Customers arriving by bicycle can use the spacious bicycle parking area.

Festive Opening

The festive opening of Okay Lembeek will take place on 6 and 7 March, with food trucks, plenty of tastings and great opening discounts.
