Renewed Spar Colruyt Group in Heultje reopens doors on 26 May

On Friday 26 May, the renewed Spar Colruyt Group store in the centre of Heultje is reopening after renovations. The neighbourhood supermarket was completely renovated in the style of the latest generation of Spar stores, with great attention to sustainability and an inviting layout. Bruno Biesemans, the independent entrepreneur of Spar ‘Den Bies’, and his team will be able to focus even more on a pleasant shopping experience and their wide range of fresh, quality products.

Renovation with an eye for sustainability

The renovated Spar store is ideally located in the centre of Heultje, opposite the church and near the beautiful village square. After a three-week closure, loyal and new customers can once again shop in a modern neighbourhood supermarket from Friday 26 May, where shopping convenience and sustainability go hand in hand. "Our store was in need of renovation to comply with all of Colruyt Group's current environmental requirements and energy standards," says 24-year-old Bruno Biesemans, who took over the family business from his parents Kris and Lief just over a year ago. “We want to underline the green colour of Spar's logo which meant a thorough renovation was in order.”

The inside and outside underwent some major changes.  The store was given a new floor and ceiling and the layout of the store area was completely changed. The outer walls were given a fresh coat of paint and, thanks to new lighting, the route to the car park is considerably more pleasant and safe now. Heat pumps, which replaced the old oil boiler, a more economical and environmentally-friendly cooling system and solar panels on the roof, have made the store a lot more energy efficient. 

Even more focus on fresh products

The design of the new Spar neighbourhood supermarket is all about customers' shopping convenience. The renovated interior has a more spacious and open feel, and the layout of the extensive range of quality products is more logical and convenient. Of course with a great deal of attention for fresh products. “Quick, easy and fresh! They remain the three spearheads of our store,” Bruno underlines. “Our product range perfectly meets the day-to-day needs of our customers with good bread, the finest charcuterie and top-quality ready-made meals. Our charcuterie and ready-made meals are packaged in-house, to make sure everything stays fresh.”

In addition to new, more spacious wall refrigerators, Spar Heultje now also has a larger fruit and vegetable section, with more space for potatoes, chilled vegetables and fruit salads. The on-the-go-offer was also expanded and is now conveniently displayed in a new, open cooling stand. “The renewed bakery corner has in-house baked rolls and baguettes, as well as fresh bread from bakery Het Broodhuys and delicious pastries from De Broodkruimel. Spar Heultje also sells delicious regional products such as ice cream from Van Doninck and rice pudding from De Melkweg,” Bruno adds.

Third generation in the family business

Spar Heultje is an established name in the surrounding area. “The store has been a household name in our village since 1946, a family business that has now been handed down from father to son for the third generation in a row. First everyone came to shop at 'Zelfbediening Biesemans' (Self-service Biesemans), the Spar logo has been on the façade since 2007,” Bruno explains. “Just over a year ago, I took over the shop from my parents Kris and Lief, with great enthusiasm and the same passion for the trade. The fact that I can now make a real start in this modern, renovated neighbourhood supermarket only encourages me more to do well.”

Opening reception with a snack and a drink

On Thursday 25 May, Spar Heultje will officially reopen with a festive reception. Bruno and his staff will welcome customers and local residents with a snack and a drink and will gladly give a small tour of the renovated store. The store will open for customers on Friday 26 May which will be marked by an interesting savings card campaign. During the opening week, there will also be a special folder with some great discounts and promotions.
