Refurbished Okay Moerbeke reopens on 23 July as a sustainable neighbourhood supermarket
With a renewed bread section, refreshed freshmart and now also self-scan checkouts
On Wednesday 23 July, Okay Moerbeke, located on Statiestraat, will reopen its doors following a complete refurbishment. The neighbourhood supermarket, with a total retail space of 650 m², has been renovated in the style of the latest generation of Okay stores. Among the updates are a new bakery section, a refreshed freshmart, and a redesigned checkout area where customers can now pay quickly and easily at the new self-service tills. The renovation strongly focused on minimising environmental impact. Store manager Melissa Baerbier and her team are excited to welcome their customers back.
Focus on fresh products and daily baked bread
Thanks to the fresh and modern layout of Okay Moerbeke, customers can easily navigate the varied selection of fresh products. “In the new freshmart, it's easy to choose from our wide range of fruit and vegetables, dairy, meat, charcuterie, fish and ready-made meals – all freshly prepared, as our customers have come to expect,” says store manager Melissa. “Just outside the freshmart, we’ve added extra refrigerated units offering an extended selection of meat, fish and vegetarian snacks – ideal for relaxed aperitif moments with family or friends.”
At Okay Moerbeke, staff bake quality breads, pastries and rolls several times a day. These are all neatly displayed in the renewed , and clearly arranged bakery corner.
Quick payment at self-scan checkouts
Melissa highlights a few other changes: “In the frozen products department, customers will now find their favourite products more easily, thanks to new energy-efficient freezer units with glass lids. The checkout area has also been refurbished to make paying even more convenient. And brand new are the three self-service checkouts, where customers can scan and pay for their groceries quickly and easily.”
All of these innovations and improvements contribute to a pleasant shopping experience and more efficient grocery shopping. "And every day, a great team of 12 motivated co-workers ready to help our customers. Al local people who value friendliness, good service and helpfulness above all.”
Minimal environmental impact
Like the other Colruyt Group store formats, Okay is firmly committed to building sustainably and with a minimal ecological footprint. Okay Moerbeke runs entirely on green electricity, no gas or fuel oil is used. The store’s environmentally friendly refrigeration emits 90% less CO₂ than traditional systems, and the residual heat from both the refrigeration and ventilation systems is reused to heat the store. Permeable paving on the car park allows rainwater to slowly seep into the ground, helping maintain groundwater levels and easing the burden on the sewage system.
Easy to reach by car and bicycle
Okay Moerbeke is conveniently located on Statiestraat, a main road close to the village centre – easily accessible for all. The spacious and accessible car park offers 61 spaces, including 2 charging points for electric vehicles. Cargo bikes can also be safely secured in the bike shed.
