Okay opens sustainable neighbourhood supermarket in Châtelet

Also Open on Sunday mornings

Wednesday, May 13, 2026

Okay Châtelet opens on Friday 15 May. The former Comarché store is reopening its doors as the 156th Okay store. Customers will find a varied range of products for every moment of the day in this practical neighbourhood supermarket located at Rue des Français 153. The store covers 456 m² and was built using sustainable techniques and materials. Store manager Vincent Vanlangendonck and his team of 6 employees are looking forward to welcoming their new customers. Like all other Okay stores since January 2026, the store is also open on Sundays from 8 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

Convenient and fresh

The neighbourhood supermarket belongs to the latest generation of Okay stores and features a fresh, modern layout. Customers can find everything they need under one roof: from fresh meat, fish and vegetarian products to ready meals and meal salads. The store also offers newspapers, magazines, gift baskets and more. In addition, the store includes three self-checkouts, allowing customers to scan and pay for their purchases quickly and independently.

The range of fresh products is one of Okay’s greatest strengths.“In our freshmart, the wide aisles and glass wall create a pleasant shopping experience. It's easy to choose from our wide range of fruit and vegetables, always deliciously fresh every day. Just outside the freshmart, you'll find a chilled tapas unit with everything you need for a perfect aperitif evening: meat, fish or vegetarian options. We have snacks to suit everyone's taste," explains Vincent.

Fresh bread is delivered daily to Okay Châtelet and employees bake a large part of the range in-store themselves. High-quality pastries and bread rolls also come fresh out of the oven several times a day. Everything is prepared before 8 a.m. for a delicious breakfast – including on Sundays. Vincent adds: “Our bakery corner has been designed ergonomically and clearly, making it very user-friendly for both our customers and our employees.” In the frozen food section, customers will find freezer units with glass lids, allowing them to quickly and easily locate their favourite products.

Promotions and discounts

At Okay, customers always shop at the lowest prices in the neighbourhood. With Xtra, they receive additional promotions on top — automatically applied after scanning the Xtra app at the checkout.

Minimal environmental impact

Like all Colruyt Group formats, Okay is strongly committed to sustainable construction with minimal environmental impact. "This store runs entirely on green electricity, we don't use gas or heating oil,"says Vincent. Our eco-friendly cooling system produces 90% less CO₂ emissions than a traditional system. We use the heat released from the cooling and ventilation system to heat the shop. Our ventilation system thus recovers 75% of the heat." In addition, the shop consumes 30% less energy thanks to the energy-efficient LED lighting.

Easy to access

The new Okay store on Rue des Français is easily accessible. The spacious and easily accessible parking area has a capacity of 35 vehicles. In the future, 2 more DATS 24 charging stations will also be installed. Cyclists can use the bike parking area, which also has space for cargo bikes.

Festive opening

The festive opening of Okay Châtelet will take place on 15 May. During the opening, customers can enjoy food trucks, tastings galore and fantastic opening discounts.
