On Wednesday 14 February, Okay Compact, the city concept of neighbourhood supermarket Okay, will open a new establishment on Grotesteenweg in Antwerp, bringing the total number of Antwerp-based Okay Compact stores to 6. The new store is located in the heart of Berchem, near the intersection of Grotesteenweg and Binnensingel (R10). Particularly handy for local residents and commuters on their way home or to the office.
Easy shopping nearby
Okay Compact welcomes customers every day of the week. Like Okay, Okay Compact is a true neighbourhood supermarket. The practical store with a 380 m2 surface area is easily accessible on foot, by bicycle or by tram. Moreover, it has a wide range of fresh produce: fruits and vegetables, meat, fish, bread and pastries, etc. This brand-new store has plenty of other foods on offer, including on-the-go coffee and filled sandwiches.
You can also pop by at Okay Compact in Antwerp-Berchem for a quick coffee or a ready-made meal. "That on-the-go offering that is in high demand among city dwellers, that's what characterises our store," city manager Mariana Boboc comments. She and her team of six permanent store employees are all set to welcome their customers with a smile. Even on Sundays.
A heart for the environment
Like the other Colruyt Group store formats, Okay Compact is firmly committed to building sustainably and with a minimal ecological footprint. The store uses no gas or fuel oil, making it completely free of fossil fuels. The eco-friendly cooling emits 90 % less CO2 than a traditional cooling unit. What's more, the heat released by the cooling system is recovered to heat the store. The ventilation system also recovers 75 % of the heat. Energy-efficient LED lamps reduce power consumption by 30 %.
Looking towards the future
Meanwhile, there are already 19 Okay Compact city stores in Belgium: 6 in Brussels, 4 in Ghent, 1 in Liège, 1 in Blankenberge, 1 in Halle and - the new establishment in Berchem included - 6 in Antwerp.
