Colruyt Group introduces self-checkout at Okay, Okay Compact, and Spar Colruyt Group

Starting today, customers at Okay Hoegaarden can make use of self-checkout. Through this system, customers can scan and pay for their products themselves. Colruyt Group is implementing the system in its own unique way: there will be no gates at the self-checkout exit, and a host will always be present to assist.

Christophe Dehandschutter, manager of Okay, said: “For the first time, we are introducing the self-checkout system in Okay, Okay Compact, and Spar Colruyt Group stores. We are doing this so customers can easily scan and pay for their items, as we’ve noticed that this is particularly appealing for smaller purchases. We are organizing our self-checkout in our own way: there will be no gates at the exit, based on trust in our customers. A host will always be present in the check-out area to assist customers where needed. Additionally, customers will always have the option to choose whether or not to use the self-checkout. We will continue to offer both systems: the new self-checkout and the traditional check-out, where items are transferred from one cart to another.

This year, Colruyt Group will roll out the new self-checkouts in 10 Okay, Okay Compact, and Spar Colruyt Group stores (Okay Hoegaarden, Okay Compact Antwerp, Okay Pepingen, Okay Compact Anneessensplein Brussels, Okay Rebecq, Okay Fleurus, Spar CG Mouscron, Spar CG Mechelen and internal canteens). The further rollout will be evaluated early next year.

Colruyt Group had already introduced the self-checkout system at Cru and Okay Direct.
