The Spar store in Vaux-sur-Sûre opened its doors on Thursday, 7 March. The local supermarket at 13 rue De La Barrière has been transformed into a Spar, with a focus on product quality and customer satisfaction. Entrepreneurs Nicole Besseling and André Louis are also proud to offer a wide range of local products.
The new Spar store on rue De La Barrière in Vaux-sur-Sûre opened its doors on Thursday, 7 March. You may recognise the address: the building once housed another supermarket. While the brand has changed, customers have been very pleased to return to a familiar layout and familiar faces.
The Spar in Vaux-sur-Sûre is first and foremost a family affair. Nicole Besseling and André Louis have been running the store since 2010, working with their daughter, Tiffanie. The team of six co-workers, three of whom are students, all hail from the region.
The transition happened very quickly: the store was closed for just one day, during which the in-store team and a team from Colruyt Group worked hand in hand to prepare for the opening. The product range was reorganised, new checkouts were installed, new price labels were created, and personnel were given the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the new checkout and ordering software.
While nothing has changed for customers in terms of the store layout, the product range was reorganised during the transition to the Spar brand. Each department has seen its range expanded to include quality products from Colruyt Group’s house brands such as Boni Selection, Everyday, and Spar.
The Vaux-sur-Sûre Spar also puts an emphasis on local produce. The store offers beers, honey, flour, and pasta from local producers. Nicole and André work in partnership with a young local farmer who supplies them with potatoes direct from the farm. And for their bread and pastries, they work with Plaisir Gourmand, an artisan baker based in Bastogne, whose products are in high demand among local customers.
Quality of service and customer satisfaction are at the heart of everything the Vaux-sur-Sûre Spar does. The store is open seven days a week and offers a wide range of services, including a newsagent’s, National Lottery products, Antargaz gas cylinders, home delivery, and an outdoor launderette.
The store now also uses Xtra, an app that lets customers create a personal account for use in different Colruyt Group stores. Customers can take advantage of even better shopping deals, as well as easily drafting shopping lists, quickly consulting product information, and much more. Discounts and benefits are calculated automatically when customers present their app or Xtra card at checkout.
The 550 m² Vaux-sur-Sûre Spar is located on a busy road with no competition in the surrounding area. A large car park is also available to customers. The clientele mainly consists of local residents and workers, as well as cross-border commuters.
