Complete refurbishment

The Colruyt Group Spar in Wanze was closed for a month for refurbishment. Michaël, the manager: “Everything has been renovated and modernised: the internal fittings, but the exterior as well. The new installations are all low-energy. ” The store has been decorated in the style of the new generation of Spar stores. The techniques used are the best for protecting the environment. “We’ve installed a new refrigeration system that includes a heat recovery mechanism. The residual heat generated by the refrigeration process is used to heat the store. We’ve also put in LED lighting everywhere”, explains Michaël.

Fresh produce and a new-look wine aisle

The fresh produce aisles and butcher’s counter in the Wanze Spar have a real market feel, reinforced by the range of local produce. Michaël: “We invest in the quality and freshness of our fruit and vegetables, as well our range of fresh meat, our strong point. We are expanding our fresh produce offer, in particular with a new deli counter, which is three times bigger. ” This neighbourhood supermarket is also continuing with its various collaborations with local producers, and so can offer cheese and butter direct from the farm, craft beers, confectionery and more. “As well as this local produce, we are offering new organic products, such as wine, ” points out Michaël. “We are very proud of the wine aisle, with its completely new look. Customers can access a whole range of recommendations, thanks to a digital tablet. There is also a dispenser. We are hoping to attract lots of wine lovers who enjoy trying something different. ”The Wanze Spar will renew its wine selection every week.

Spar: it runs in the family

Michaël was born an entrepreneur. “I’ve been a loyal Spar affiliate for 28 years. I started out in my parents’ store, before taking on my own premises in Herseaux. My urge to expand and develop then brought me here, seven years ago. Managing a 1,000 m² Spar in a very busy location was a challenge I wanted to take on. And it is really satisfying to be able to contribute to the economic development of the area at the same time. ”An additional seven colleagues will be joining the Wanze Spar team, which was already 28 strong. Michaël and his team are really looking forward to welcoming their customers back to their renovated Spar.
