Spar Kerkhove reopening at new location

Spar in Kerkhove, part of Avelgem, is opening a brand-new store on Thursday 30 August. As the previous building was outdated, the decision was taken to build a completely new store, right across the street. All customers and local residents are welcome to attend a grand opening reception on Wednesday 29 August between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.

New yet familiar location
Spar Kerkhove is relocating from Brugstraat 4 to Brugstraat 5. “We’re directly opposite the old shop, so we’re just as easy to find for our regular customers”, says independent proprietor Frank Lamon. “Most of them are local residents, but we also get tourists who are exploring the Flemish Ardennes.” Those customers will now be able to enjoy even more comfort. “We now have around 30 parking spaces, so a bit more room than before, and our years of experience have helped us come up with a very logical layout for our store. The building also uses a lot less energy, thanks to the brand-new cooling systems and the heat pump that drives the heating.”

Same market style and till as Colruyt
The store looks fresh and modern, with the same style layout as the new generation of Spar convenience stores. The highlights are the fresh foods sections, which create a market style. The practical layout with high and low shelves gives customers a good overview of the store.

The in-store bakery provides fresh bread, French sticks, crusty rolls and cakes, which are baked fresh several times a day to guarantee their quality. Customers can now find a wider range of catering packs of meat in the butchery. “Our fresh food ranges from a variety of pasta dishes to seasonal platters with chicory. All freshly prepared in the store itself”, says Frank.

The till looks a bit different as well. Instead of having a conveyor belt, a member of staff transfers each customer’s items from shopping cart to shopping cart or shopping bag. That means more personal contact with customers and less queuing time at the till.
Customers can take inspiration from the digital screens that show recipes, meal suggestions and product information.

Family business
The building itself might be new, but the attractive family atmosphere is the same as ever. “We are still a real family business. I grew up in my parents’ Spar store in Ronse, which is now run by my sister and her husband. I’ve been running the store in Kerkhove with my wife Inge for 21 years, now”, says Frank. “We want to be known for always going that extra step when it comes to personal service and guidance. And our seven familiar team members from the old shop will still be here to serve our customers.”
