Spar Handzame opens its doors

On Thursday 24 September, the brand-new Spar Colruyt Group store in Handzame opens. We celebrate this with a nice action: on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, all customers can win back their purchases every hour.

A heart for Spar

Bringing freshness and quality to Handzame, that is the mission of managers Jens Van Landeghem and Delphine Devadder. This must certainly be possible with a 780 m² store. Spar Handzame is situated along the Staatsbaan, an excellent location for local residents and passers-by. "There are a few companies nearby and there is much traffic on the road between Dksmuide and Kortemark", Jens assures us.

Market feeling and focus on fresh

Spar Handzame looks fresh and modern. They focus on the freshmarket unquestionably. "We want to create a real market feeling", says Jens. The bakery is a real showpiece. The dough is kneaded at closing time and goes into to proving cabinet. "In the morning we start baking it, enabling us to offer our customers crusty fresh bread", says Jens. No frozen bread at Spar Handzame, which is quite unique. Freshness is also at centre stage in the cheese and cold cuts department. All products are sliced on the spot. This means there is time for a nice chat among locals.

Making short chain easy

Local anchoring is important to Spar Handzame. The new store employs 13 people from the region. For the range of products, they also go local. The exceptionally delicious pork of supplier Van NIeuwenhuyse from Kortemark is an example.

At Spar, people like to cook, that's for sure. On the digital screens, customers can see recipes, meal ideas and product information to inspire them. The catering department offers home-made specialities such as stew and meatballs in tomato sauce. The chef's speciality is without a doubt his salmon vol-au-vent.
