Spar Colruyt Group Heverlee reopens on Thursday 9 October after major refurbishment

A trusted local supermarket, ready for the future

Spar Colruyt Group Heverlee has undergone a major refurbishment in recent weeks. The store has been given a fresh new look with updated shelves and fittings, a modern sliced cold meat and cheese department, and a bread department now located at the front of the store. The entire cooling system was also replaced with sustainable models. The store reopens on Thursday, 9 October.

Ready for the future

Spar Heverlee has been a well-established presence in the neighbourhood for many years. Managers Luc and Anny Coenen started the store two decades ago and still run it passionately every day, now together with their sons Erik and Bart and daughter-in-law Elke. They can count on an enthusiastic team of 12 permanent employees and quite a few students.

“The dynamic in our team is great. With so many young, energetic people, it is a pleasure to work together and help customers," said the family.

Key highlights of the renewed store

Spar Heverlee is fully committed to fresh and quality. The main highlights include:

  • A wide and fresh selection of fruit and vegetables.
  • Freshly risen and baked bread rolls, baguettes and other breads daily.
  • A diverse assortment of groceries.

Products in the sliced cold meat and cheese department continue to be freshly cut on site and pre-packaged. This is now done in new MAP packaging (Modified Atmosphere Packaging). By packing under a protective atmosphere, the products are longer lasting, resulting in added convenience for the customer.

Sustainability is a top priority at Colruyt Group. New CO₂ cooling systems have been installed, with residual heat being reused to heat the store. All the new cooling units are fitted with doors to help save energy.

Festive reopening

The store reopens on Thursday, 9 October. On Saturday, 11 October, the managers and their team will celebrate the reopening from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a tasting of delicious wines and aperitif drinks. In addition, every customer from 9 to 11 October will receive a free bottle of Gran Barón cava with any purchase of €40 or more, with or without alcohol.

The taste of joy

With this extensive refurbishment, Spar Heverlee is firmly looking to the future. “We want to offer our customers a modern, sustainable yet welcoming store where they can come every day for fresh products, competitive prices and our personal service. We greatly look forward to welcoming everyone again," says the family.
