On Friday 29 August, the Okay City at Hogeschoollaan in Elsene / Avenue de l'Université Ixelles will reopen its doors following a major refurbishment. This convenient city supermarket, with a retail area of 353 m², was the first ever Okay City to open in Belgium back in 2012. It is now also the first Okay City to undergo a complete makeover, including a revamped bread corner, refurbished freshmart, additional chiller cabinets, and a hot food display cabinet for ready-to-eat hot snacks. In the updated checkout area, customers can now pay quickly and easily at the Assisted Self-Checkout. Sustainability was a key priority during the store’s renovation, with efforts to minimise environmental impact. Store manager Aurélien Nys and his team are looking forward to welcoming back their customers.
Okay City Elsene/Ixelles has been completely modernised, with an even stronger focus on its diverse range of fresh produce. “Our freshmart has been moved to the front of the store and now looks very fresh and modern", explains City manager Aurélien. “For example, it is now even easier to choose from our wide range of fruits and vegetables, dairy, meat, charcuterie (deli meats) fish and ready-to-eat meals. Everything is daily fresh, just as you would expect from Okay City. "Right outside the freshmart, we've also installed additional chiller cabinets, offering an extensive selection of meat, fish and vegetarian appetisers for enjoyable aperitifs with family or friends..And from the new hot food display cabinet you can easily grab a delicious hot snack to take away.”
At Okay City Elsene/Ixelles, store staff bake high-quality bread, pastries and rolls, several times a day. All of these items are now showcased in the revamped, and well-organised bread corner. "Also in the frozen food department, customers find their favourite products in no time thanks to the energy-efficient chest-type freezers with glass lids," adds Aurélien.
The checkout area has also been updated to make payment even faster and smoother. “Completely new is the Assisted Self-Checkout: a zone with four separate checkouts where our customers can quickly and easily scan and pay for their groceries themselves," \u200b explains Aurélien.
All of these innovations and improvements contribute to a pleasant shopping experience and more efficient grocery shopping. Like the other Colruyt Group store formats, Okay City attaches great importance to building and renovating sustainably and with a minimum ecological footprint. The refurbished Okay City at Hogeschoollaan/Avenue de l'Université uses no gas or heating oil; the store runs entirely on green electricity. The store's eco-friendly cooling system emits 90% less CO2 than conventional cooling installations and the heat released by the cooling system is recovered to heat is recovered to heat the store.
