More sustainable infrastructure and modernised butcher's shop

Monday, December 16, 2024

On Wednesday, 18 December 2024, the Colruyt Lowest Prices in Wavre will reopen after several weeks of renovations. The product assortment has been expanded, the self-service butchery has been completely renovated, and the Collect&Go point has been optimised. During the renovation, particular attention was paid to the customer experience and the sustainability of the infrastructure.

New Products and modernised butcher's shop

With an optimised layout and a sales area of 2,005 m², customers at Colruyt Wavre will be able to shop more comfortably and efficiently. Manager Antoine Hayard explains: “By grouping charcuterie and meat in the butcher’s section, we’ve saved space in the fresh section. As a result, customers will find over 40 new products. At the butcher's shop, the self-service counter has been replaced with closed, transparent refrigerators that emit less CO2. Customers can also see our butchers at work in an open workshop, which makes it easier to communicate in case of questions or special orders.” The store also has a more complete product assortment, with over 200 new products, and a more modernised bread cabinet.

Order your groceries with Collect&Go

The Collect&Go pick-up point at Colruyt Wavre has been renovated and is reopening as well. Collect&Go is Colruyt Group’s convenient online shopping service. Customers send their shopping list via collectandgo.be or the Xtra app, and employees prepare the products at the pick-up point for the chosen day and time.

Strong focus on sustainability

For the renovation of its Wavre store, Colruyt has also focused on sustainability. The building is fully equipped with LED lighting and motion detectors, which results in an energy saving of 30%. It is also fitted with a system that recovers 75% of the heat emitted by the refrigeration units to heat the store, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 90%. All refrigerated units use propane, a natural refrigerant that reduces the environmental footprint related to CO2 by nearly 90%. Furthermore, solar panels supply the store with green electricity. Colruyt aims to utilise all these measures to optimise its energy consumption and reduce its carbon footprint. Finally, the car park is equipped with a charging point for two electric vehicles and six extra-large racks for bikes (including cargo bikes).

Open evening on Tuesday 17 December

Manager Antoine Hayard concludes: “Together with my team of 30 employees and 9 butchers, we are looking forward to welcoming our customers. We invite them to discover the renovated store first during our open evening on Tuesday, 17th December, from 5 pm to 8 pm. Everyone is welcome!”»
