Reopening of Colruyt Virton: a refurbished store with a focus on sustainable choices

Optimised fresh market and modernised butcher's section

Monday, July 1, 2024

On Wednesday, 3 July 2024, Colruyt Lowest Prices Virton will reopen its doors after several weeks of renovation work. The self-service butcher's section has been completely revamped, the bread cabinet modernised and the Collect&Go collection point expanded. During the renovation, particular attention was paid to customer experience and the sustainability of the infrastructure.

Optimised store and modernised butcher's section

With an optimised shelf layout and 1,596 m² of retail space, Colruyt Virton is sure to provide its customers with an even more pleasant and efficient shopping experience. Store manager Geoffrey Goosse explains: "By bringing together charcuterie and meat in the butcher's section, we managed to save space in the fresh market, where customers can now find about 300 new references. In the butcher's section, the self-service counter has also been replaced by closed, see-through refrigerators, which emit less CO2. What's more, thanks to the open workshop, customers can now see our butchers at work, making it easy for them to ask questions or place special orders."
The store also features a modernised bread cabinet.

Order your groceries with Collect&Go

The Collect&Go collection point of Colruyt Virton has been renovated and expanded. Collect&Go is Colruyt Group’s convenient online shopping service. Customers send in their shopping list via collectandgo.be or the Xtra app, and store employees have their groceries ready at the collection point by the day and time of their choice.

Strong focus on sustainability

Once again, sustainability was at the forefront of the renovations in Colruyt Virton. The entire building has been equipped with LED lighting controlled by motion detectors, cutting energy use by 30%. It also has a system for recovering residual heat from refrigeration units. Furthermore, solar panels provide the store with green electricity. Colruyt aims to utilise all these measures to optimise its energy consumption and reduce its carbon footprint. And last but not least, the car park has two charging stations for electric vehicles and eight extra-large racks to secure bicycles or cargo bikes.

Open evening on Tuesday, 2 July

Store manager Geoffrey Goosse concludes: “My team of 26 co-workers, 8 butchers and I are looking forward to welcoming back our customers. We would therefore like to invite them to a sneak preview of the refurbished store at our open evening on Tuesday, 2 July, from 5 to 8 p.m. Everyone is most welcome! »
