"subtitle": "The Colruyt store in Malmedy reopens its doors on Wednesday, \r\n22 May. The supermarket building, which has been transformed into a new-generation Colruyt store, will be more energy-efficient thanks to better insulation and adapted ventilation. The new features include a butcher\u2019s counter with a brand-new look, a larger refrigerated zone, electronic price tags, a pick-up point almost three times the size of the previous one, and a larger car park.\r\n",

    "body": "
Tuesday, May 21, 2019

Shop more efficiently

The store manager Benjamin Chantraine explains, “The store has been completely redeveloped and the refrigerated zone and car park have been extended. Customers can shop more efficiently and enjoyably. The work we have done naturally prioritises simplicity and the lowest costs, which is what our customers expect at Colruyt.”

Butcher’s counter with open work room

Customers can now help themselves to fresh, high-quality meat from an entirely new butcher’s counter. Geoffrey Cloes, head butcher says, “Customers can see our butchers at work in an open work room. This is handy if they have any questions or special requests. Furthermore, customers have a better view of our range of meat, cold cuts, and salads in the new butcher’s counter.”

Collect&Go pick-up point almost three times bigger

In an aim to serve customers better, Colruyt has almost tripled the surface area of its pick-up point, Collect&Go, in Malmedy, which has grown from 38 m² to 102 m². The manager explains, “Collect&Go is the online shopping service at Colruyt Group. Customers send us their list of Colruyt or Bio-Planet items on collectandgo.be or via the MyColruyt app, and we put their shopping ready at the pick-up point according to their selected day and time. It’s super practical!”

A more energy-efficient building

When renovating its store in Malmedy, Colruyt chose insulating materials and sustainable technology, such as a system to recover heat from the ventilation of refrigerated installations. The area surrounding the store has also received particular attention, with the planting of many trees and shrubs.

Benjamin Chantraine adds, “This project is part of a much broader renovation plan. Between now and 2029, the group’s CO2 emission rates should decrease by 4%.”

Electronic price tags

Electronic price tags have replaced paper labels at Colruyt in Malmedy. According to the manager, “Electronic tags are more ecological and better for the environment. They allow us to economise significantly on both paper and transport. We use 75 million labels per year across all stores, which represents a reduction of 90 tons of paper. The new tags are also very efficient in their energy consumption, as they only use electricity when the price is modified. Two further benefits that should certainly not be overlooked: we can react much more quickly to last-minute changes by competitors and our colleagues have more time available, particularly for implementation.”

Special open evening on 21 May

Starting Wednesday, 22 May, the manager Benjamin Chantraine, head butcher Geoffrey Cloes, and 30 other colleagues will be ready to greet customers in the renovated Colruyt in Malmedy.

The manager says, “People can come and get a glimpse of what’s new on the eve of the opening. We will serve drinks and canapés during this special open evening, from 5pm to 8pm. Everyone is welcome!”

More info?
