Reopening of Colruyt Lowest Prices in Chênée on 11/12
A modernised butcher's shop and a wider range of products
Monday, December 9, 2024
On Wednesday 11 December 2024, Colruyt Lowest Prices in Chênée will reopen its doors after more than 11 months of works. In 2021, during the floods, the store was under 1.5 m of water. In just 4 weeks, it was largely restored to its former glory, to ensure that the victims were not abandoned. So, the time had come to demolish the store and rebuild it on the same site. The self-service butcher's shop has undergone a major makeover, with a much larger refrigeration area and an increased number of chest freezers. The icing on the cake is that the Collect&Go collection point is now located in the store. During the renovation, particular attention was paid to the customer experience and the infrastructure’s sustainability. Lastly, Colruyt Group is currently developing strongly in Liège with the opening of new stores and a property development project along the Ourthe.
Optimised store, modernised butcher's shop, and wider range of products
With a completely new layout for the shelves and a sales area of 1,804m², i.e. 400 m² more than the old store, customers at Colruyt Chênée will be able to shop even more pleasantly and efficiently. Store manager Jonathan Busine explains: “By grouping charcuterie and meat in the butcher’s shop, we’ve saved space in the fresh market. Customers will be able to try out more than 30 new items. In the butcher’s shop, the self-service counter has been replaced by closed, transparent refrigerators, which emit less CO2. Customers can see our butchers at work in an open butcher’s area, which makes it easier to communicate with them if they have any questions or want to place specific orders.” The store also has a more modern bread cabinet and a brand-new parapharmacy section. "With over 1,500 new products in total, customers will be spoilt for choice, both in terms of food and non-food items such as kitchen utensils, toys, seasonal products, and stationery," continues the store manager.
Book your shopping with Collect&Go
The Collect&Go collection point at Colruyt Chênée is also reopening its doors. Collect&Go is a handy shopping service provided by Colruyt Group. Customers send in their shopping list via collectandgo.be or the Xtra app, and our personnel ensures that their products are ready at the collection point by the day and time of their choice.
A focus on sustainability and mobility
Colruyt has also opted for sustainability when renovating its Chênée store. This low-energy building is fully equipped with LED lighting, with motion detectors, representing energy savings of 30%. It also features a heat recovery system for the heat produced by the refrigerators, The green roof does not simply collect and retain rainwater, it also provides good insulation. The study of infiltration and water retention was particularly thorough on this site. The old store suffered from the floods of 2021, which dramatically affected the surrounding area. Tall trees have also been planted in the car park. The verticality and amplitude of their crowns help to combat heat islands. All these measures enable Colruyt to optimise its energy consumption and reduce its carbon footprint.
The mobility aspect was also taken into account during the works. The car park is equipped with two charging points for four electric vehicles and five extra-large bicycle or cargo bike racks. Finally, a pedestrian walkway, accessible during store opening hours, will provide access to the banks of the Ourthe from Boulevard de Beaufraipont.
Large-scale development in and around Liège
Colruyt is currently developing strongly in Liège and surrounding area, with the recent opening of Colruyt Professionals in Wandre, Jims in Rue de l'Université in Liège and the forthcoming opening of the new Colruyt in Grâce-Hollogne. Wallonia's very first Bike Republic store will open its doors on the site on 21 February. This Colruyt Group store offers a wide range of bicycles, including electric, city, and racing bikes, as well as all the equipment you need for cycling.
Above Bike Republic, 10 flats are currently being completed. Colruyt Group will put them on the rental market towards the end of the first half of 2025. The group is also building 26 flats along the Ourthe, which will be put up for sale.
Open evening on Tuesday 10 December
Store manager Jonathan Busine concludes: "With my team of 22 co-workers and 7 butchers, we can't wait to welcome our customers. We're inviting them to get a sneak preview of the brand-new store at our open evening on Tuesday 10 December from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome!
