On Thursday, 31 October, Spar Zammel will reopen its doors. The charming local supermarket underwent a complete transformation over the course of three weeks, becoming part of the latest generation of Spar Colruyt Group stores. Fresh, local and sustainable are key pillars here. Entrepreneurs Silke Nuyts, Tim Peeters and their team are all set to welcome their customers back to the store.
Need for renovation
Thursday, 31 October, marks the grand reopening of Spar Colruyt Group in Zammel. The store on Grotesteenweg has been completely revamped over a three-week period. It was high time, according to independent entrepreneurs Silke Nuyts and Tim Peeters. "The store was very outdated, and a renovation was needed," Silke explains. "For a year, we listened carefully to the wishes and needs of our customers. We have now put those insights into practice."
With a refreshed façade and entrance on the outside and a completely new interior layout, Spar Zammel is now even more focused on enhancing the shopping experience.
Familiar faces
The Spar Zammel team consists of four local employees, all eager to embark on this new chapter of their Spar journey. Silke Nuyts (35) and Tim Peeters (43) are leading the team. They may be familiar faces in the area, as they have worked together for many years at Spar Tongerlo, where Tim is also an independent entrepreneur.
"After 13 years in Tongerlo, I felt the urge to become an entrepreneur myself," explains Silke. "As a mother, I know better than anyone what a family expects from their local supermarket."
Delicious food
"We noticed that Spar’s new concept was well received at the Tongerlo store. So, we are confident that it will also be successful in Zammel," says Tim. The concept focuses on fresh and delicious products. Products from the fresh products counter are prepared at Spar Tongerlo and delivered to Zammel, packaged in a protective atmosphere to keep them fresher for longer without losing flavour.
Customers at Spar Zammel can also enjoy freshly baked bread and rolls made on-site in the new bakery. "We want to put even more emphasis on freshness, for example, by offering freshly prepared sandwiches."
Local products are also well represented in the product range. At Spar Zammel, customers can find artisanal products from local farm De Melkweg and ice cream from Van Doninck.
Sustainability as a priority
Sustainability is a key focus for Spar Colruyt Group, and Spar Zammel is no exception. “We are open to making sustainable choices. For instance, we have installed new, energy-efficient cooling units," Silke explains. "And thanks to our LED lighting, the store is now much more energy-efficient."
Festive opening
Although Spar Zammel will officially reopen on 31 October, everyone is welcome to the festive opening reception on Wednesday, 30 October, from 6 to 9 p.m. Customers can come and (re)discover the revamped store while enjoying a snack and a drink. A special opening brochure will also be available, featuring numerous great discounts during the opening week.
