Complete refurbishment

Exactly three years ago, brothers Sébastien and Baptiste took over the Spar in Koksijde-Bad from their father Daniel Peene and his associate Patrick Vandeputte. David has been running the store for 10 years, working under Spar’s flag throughout his career. The shop has a rich history, but at some point it needed modernisation. “Our customers range from local residents, to tourists and people from the hospitality industry”, says Sébastien. "To better meet the needs of these different customers, we needed this refurbishment.”

Focus on fresh produce

The new store places more emphasis on the fresh produce sections, thereby creating an authentic market feeling. “The reputation of the quality of our fresh produce sections extends beyond Koksijde", says Sébastien. "We wanted to further build on our strong reputation. That's why we updated and improved our equipment." When customers arrive, they are greeted by the smell of fresh bread and pastries. “Fresh bread will be baked throughout the day”, says Baptiste. “We now also have a wider range of dishes that are prepared in-store. The butcher's shop now has a heated display cabinet for rotisserie chicken. And we have installed a juicer to make fresh orange juice."

Extra service for customers and the community

Spar customers will benefit from Sébastien’s knowledge of wine, which he gained when working at his former wine shop. Spar's range of wines has been extended to include some special wines and the full range is displayed in a new, eye-catching display cabinet. Together with a wine advisor, Sébastien provides professional suggestions for choosing the right wine. "And a handy wine app helps customers who want to know which dishes go with which wines", adds Sébastien.
Further more, the brothers also work together with ‘het Sociaal Huis’, the municipality’s welfare organisation, which comes and collects unsold food three times a week. In this way, Spar avoids wasting food and at the same time, supports a worthy cause in Koksijde.

Fresh and modern look

Spar Koksijde-Bad has been refurbished in the style of the latest generation Spar stores. Sébastien and Baptiste opted for sustainable techniques wherever possible. The new refrigeration systems, heat recovery system and LED lighting make the store more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. The size of the store remains the same at just under 1,000 m². "The store is located in the centre of Koksijde-Bad on Guido Gezelleplein, 100 metres from the sea and close to the Zeelaan shopping street. We are open seven days a week from 7.30 a.m. to 8 p.m.", says Baptiste. There is a public car park right outside the store.
