Opening of second Colruyt store in Mechelen
New store with a strong focus on sustainability
Halle, 8 December 2025
On Wednesday 10 December 2025, the second Colruyt store in Mechelen will open its doors in Oscar van Kesbeeckstraat. The former Dreamland store has been converted into a Colruyt supermarket offering a wide range of quality products at the lowest prices. The spacious car park is an additional asset in this urban location. With its second store in the city, the retailer provides customers in Mechelen with greater shopping convenience, while also reducing the pressure on the successful branch on Liersesteenweg.
1.500 m² of lowest prices
The new Colruyt in Oscar van Kesbeeckstraat offers customers a pleasant and efficient shopping experience across no fewer than 1,500 m². Store manager Elishia De Kempeneer explains: “Our shelves offer an extensive range of quality products at the lowest prices, including major brands as well as our own brands Boni and Everyday. Our fresh market is the place to be for fresh products such as fruit and vegetables, fish, dairy, veggie options and ready-made meals.” Customers can also find freshly baked, pre-packaged bread in the new store. “The butcher’s department offers a wide selection of pre-packed fresh meat and cold cuts in self-service,” adds store manager Elishia De Kempeneer. “In addition, our butchery team prepares around 50 different ready-to-eat dishes every day. Don’t hesitate to ask them for advice. If, for example, you’d like to know how much meat you need per person for a festive meal, they will be happy to help.”
Spacious covered parking
A major advantage in a city like Mechelen is the spacious car park, offering 128 parking spaces that are largely covered. Customers can easily find a spot for their car and do their shopping quickly and efficiently. Cyclists are also well catered for: the covered car park includes seven extra-wide bicycle racks that can securely accommodate 14 (cargo) bikes.
Extra focus on sustainability
The new store meets all of Colruyt Group’s sustainability standards. Particular attention has been paid to optimising energy consumption. The store is equipped with solar panels to generate green energy. Waste heat from the cooling installation is recovered, and thanks to the ventilation system, as much as 75% of the heat from the air is reused. The cooling system runs on propane, reducing Colruyt’s CO₂ footprint by 90%. Throughout the store, energy-efficient LED lighting with motion sensors reduces energy consumption by up to 30%.
Open evening and welcome discounts
Store manager Elishia De Kempeneer: “I lead a team of 21 store co-workers and 3 butchery co-workers, and we are all very much looking forward to welcoming our customers. We would like to invite everyone to raise a glass with us during our open evening on Tuesday 9 December from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and to be among the first to discover the new store. During the first few weeks, customers will also benefit from a wide range of welcome discounts.”
