Opening of a brand-new Colruyt in Chimay: a functional and sustainable store

On Wednesday 18 September 2024, a brand-new Colruyt Lowest Prices store will open its doors on Chaussée de Mons in Chimay.

A store designed to offer a unique shopping experience

In the new Colruyt Lowest Prices store in Chimay, which covers 1,430 m² of retail space, customers can choose from a very wide range of quality products, both major brands and private-label products, and always at the best prices. The store floor plan is designed to make the shopping experience as pleasant and efficient as possible. The store manager Talal Benyachou explains: "Our new-generation butcher's department is equipped with closed, see-through refrigerators. Customers can help themselves to fresh, high-quality meat, cold cuts, fish and vegetarian products. What's more, thanks to the open workshop, customers can see our qualified butchers at work, making it easy for them to ask questions or place special orders." The modern bread cabinet offering fresh and pre-packed bread is also worth checking out.

Welcome to Collect&Go

Customers also have a Collect&Go collection point at their disposal in Chimay. Collect&Go is Colruyt Group’s convenient online shopping service. Customers send in their shopping list via the Xtra app or the collectandgo.be website, and store employees have their products ready at the collection point by the day and time of their choice.

Strong focus on sustainability

The design of the new Chimay building champions one of Colruyt Group's key values: sustainability. This low-energy store is entirely fossil fuel-free and relies on an intelligent energy management system: part of its green electricity is supplied by solar panels on the roof, and rainwater is recovered and used for toilet flushing.

The building also features a heat recovery system for the heat produced by the refrigerators. What’s more, this system uses propane as its refrigerant, reducing the carbon footprint by almost 90%. Thanks to motion detectors, economic LED lighting only switches on when necessary, saving a further 30% in energy. The store has therefore received an excellent energy rating. Finally, the 89-space car park is equipped with 2 charging stations for 4 electric vehicles and 4 extra large rails to safely secure 8 bicycles or cargo bikes.

Open evening on Tuesday 17 September

Store manager Talal Benyachou concludes: “Along with my team of 30 store co-workers and 8 butchers, I am looking forward to welcoming back our customers. We're inviting them to a sneak preview of the store at our open evening on Tuesday 17 September, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome!”.
