On Wednesday 23 November, OKay Compact, the city store of neighbourhood supermarket OKay, will open its 14th store. After having opened branches in Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent and Liège, the retailer is now moving into Blankenberge, West Flanders. This practical neighbourhood supermarket allows customers to do their shopping fast, cheaply and conveniently.

The store in the neighbourhood, for the neighbours

OKay Compact welcomes customers every day of the week. Like OKay, OKay Compact is a true neighbourhood supermarket. The practical 380 m2 wide store has a very central location and is easily accessible on foot or by bicycle. It also has a wide range of fresh produce: fruits and vegetables, meat, fish, bread and pastries, etc. This brand-new store has plenty of other foods to offer, including on-the-go coffee and freshly squeezed fruit juice. In short, a wide choice and the ideal location for daily shopping or a tasty meal on the go!

OKay Compact is also open on Sundays. The neighbourhood store is a great asset for a seaside town such as Blankenberge, where coastal residents, holiday residence owners and day trippers can do their shopping fast, cheaply and conveniently.

Une attention particulière à l’environnement

À l’image des autres enseignes de Colruyt Group, OKay Compact accorde beaucoup d’importance à la construction durable de ses bâtiments, avec une empreinte environnementale aussi réduite que possible. Au OKay Compact de Blankenberge, ni gaz ni mazout ne sont consommés. Le magasin n’utilise donc pas de combustibles fossiles. De plus, le système de refroidissement respectueux de l’environnement permet de faire baisser les émissions de CO2 de 90 % en comparaison avec les systèmes de refroidissement classiques. La chaleur résiduelle de l’installation est récupérée afin de chauffer le magasin. La chaleur émise par le système de ventilation est également récupérée à 75 %. Enfin, des ampoules LED consommant 30 % d’énergie en moins que les ampoules classiques sont utilisées.

A heart for the environment

Like the other Colruyt Group store formats, OKay Compact is committed to building sustainably and with a minimal ecological footprint. In OKay Compact Blankenberge, no gas or fuel oil is used, making the store completely free of fossil fuels. The eco-friendly cooling emits 90 % less CO2 than a traditional cooling unit. What's more, the heat released by the cooling system is recovered to heat the store. The ventilation system also recovers 75 % of the heat. Energy-efficient LED lamps reduce power consumption by 30 %.

Looking towards the future

The opening of the new branch in Blankenberge brings the total number of OKay Compact stores to 14. In the years ahead, Colruyt Group wants to further expand this store format. It is therefore actively looking for suitable locations to expand its presence in the cities. OKay Compact Blankenberge will be the first city store on the coast, a region with great potential.

About OKay Compact
\u200bOKay Compact is the city concept of neighbourhood supermarket OKay. Traditional OKay stores are located along busy access roads, close to town centres, whereas OKay Compact focuses on city centres. With an average surface of 350 m², the OKay Compact stores are smaller than traditional OKay supermarkets, where the average surface is 650 m². The range is slightly more limited, although there are more on-the-go products, such as coffee, chilled drinks and hot snacks. At OKay Compact, there are no trolleys, but shopping baskets to make shopping as fast and efficient as possible. Meanwhile, OKay Compact has 14 stores and customer reactions are very positive. The OKay neighbourhood supermarket already has more than 145 supermarkets and sees potential for 180 supermarkets in the long term.
