New Spar Colruyt Group in Veurne opens on 6 July

A store with a heart for fresh and local

A new Spar Colruyt Group is to open up in Veurne on Thursday 6 July. The new formula store on Ieperse Steenweg has been completely designed in the style of the newest generation Spar stores. With a passion for fresh, local and sustainable products, store managers Maxim Van den Bussche and Ann-Sophie De Brabandere are looking forward to embarking on this adventure.

New challenge

As from 6 July, people looking for a pleasant place to shop in and around Veurne can go to the Ieperse Steenweg 129. That is where they will find the shiny brand-new Spar Veurne, with Maxim Van den Bussche and Ann-Sophie De Brabandere at the helm. "We both have an agricultural background and have a huge passion for everything to do with food. We are real bon vivants", Maxim begins. "We have friends who are Spar entrepreneurs. When the opportunity arose to open a Spar ourselves, we didn't want to let that chance slip."

A year and a half ago, Maxim and Ann-Sophie quit their jobs and decided to work alongside the colleagues of Spar Lichtervelde, Spar Ieper, Spar Eke, etc. to learn the ins and outs of the store.

Freshness first

What is unique to Spar Veurne is their fish department where customers can order fresh fish from a display counter. "Every day we get fresh fish in, which is then nicely displayed on ice in our counter," Ann-Sophie explains. This is unique and a real asset for fish lovers.

Freshness takes centre stage at Spar Veurne, from the CRU bakery with its house-baked bread rolls, to the fresh cheese and charcuterie and an own butcher's department. "We used to head to the bakery for daily fresh bread, then to the local fruit and vegetable shop, then to the butcher's shop and finally to the supermarket. That all take time. What we try to do is to bring all those quality products together in one place," Maxim explains.

The new kitchen will prepare delicious catered meals every day. Another key focus is the freshness of the vegetables and fruit, which are purchased locally in part. The store maintains high quality standards. "We really want to stand out with our fresh products," Ann-Sophie adds. "Not just for one single category, but across all store departments."

A store for everyone

Everyone is welcome at Spar Veurne for their daily shopping, big or small. Maxim and Ann-Sophie want people to feel at home in the store. Quality and customer friendliness are held in high regard. The team of permanent employees, flexi-job workers and student workers are ready to serve the customers with a smile every day.

Spar Veurne is located right across from the Bakery Museum and is easily accessible. There is room for about 100 cars and two charging stations are provided for electric cars.

Just like the other Colruyt Group store formulas, Spar is firmly committed to building sustainably and with a minimal ecological footprint. The store's brand-new cooling system emits 90 % CO2 than a conventional cooling system.

Festive opening

Shopping will not be possible until Thursday 6 July but everyone is welcome at the grand opening reception on Wednesday 5 July, from 6 to 9 p.m. Customers can explore the new store while enjoying snacks and drinks. There will also be a special opening folder, offering plenty of great discounts in the opening week.
