New snack tube helps parents and students through exam season

In the coming weeks, Colruyt will relieve the stress of parents and studying children with the launch of a new and temporary item: the snack tube. The need for smart snacking is clear, as no fewer than one in three customers puts crisps in their trolley during every shopping trip. Filled with tasty snack options (such as nuts, muesli bars and corn cakes), the snack tube offers families — who often experience little mental breathing space during exam season — an original and convenient solution. The snack tube will be available in limited quantities from 26 May in all Colruyt stores for €14.99.

As exam stress rises, so too does the pressure within families over the coming weeks. With the launch of the snack tube, Colruyt aims to ease concerns around healthier snacking by offering families convenient and original alternatives. One in four parents (Colruyt customers aged 35 to 50) already places chocolate and confectionery bars in their trolley during every shopping trip, while one in three customers — both students and parents — buys crisps and savoury snacks each time they visit the store. More smart snack options appeal to fewer than 5% of customers on every shopping trip.

For families with children, it is not always easy to keep all the balls in the air,” explains marketing manager Tamta Mamistvalovi. “During exam season, the need for convenience only increases. We see that customers are more likely to choose smarter snacks when they are easily available and affordable. At Colruyt Group, nutrition and health are important priorities, so we want to respond to this need with a range full of tasty snacks. We are convinced that the snack tube will find its way into many student flats: it offers parents and students an easy and playful way — and perhaps even helps avoid a few failed exams — to choose a quick and successful exam snack.”

Tom Smets, manager of Colruyt Leuven, the ultimate student store, is also looking forward to selling the snack tube: “Our store is especially busy on Monday evenings, when most students living in halls do their shopping at the lowest prices. Boni and Everyday crisps sell particularly well then, with around 1,100 bags per month sold of the top favourite: salted Everyday crisps. Nearly 30% of students also buy soft drinks during every shopping trip. With a fun, personal message on the snack tube to encourage fellow students, I’m convinced students will snack just a little smarter over the coming weeks."

The snack tube will be available in limited quantities in all Colruyt stores from Tuesday 26 May, priced at €14.99.
