Tuesday, May 10, 2022

Cyclists in Ghent now have an additional pit stop. On 14 May, a new Bike Republic store at the Kortrijksesteenweg in Sint-Denijs-Westrem will open in a festive manner. It is the third and biggest branch store of Bike republic in Ghent with a store surface of more than 1000 m², around 300 bikes in the showroom and an indoor test track. With this, Bike Republic, Colruyt Group's chain of bicycle stores, wants to reinforce its ambition to be the number one cycling reference in and around Ghent - and by extension the whole country.

On 14 May, a new Bike Republic will festively open its doors in Sint-Denijs-Westrem, close to the access and exit roads of the E40. It is however not just a new branch: Bike Republic Sint-Denijs-Westrem is the third and biggest Bike Republic store in Ghent and also one of the most spacious of 24 stores in Flanders. The opening - already the sixth this year - is part of a broader expansion strategy, after the acquisitions of Wieleke in Laakdal and Diest, Fietsen Van Der Veken in Retie and Turnhout and the opening of a new store in Veurne.

Back from never really gone, with extensive assortment

It is no coincidence that one of the biggest Bike Republic stores in the country is located in Ghent. Colruyt Group's bicycle chain-store is a continuation of what once was Joma Sport - and later Fiets!: a specialist cycle store at the Fabiolalaan, close to the Ghent-Sint-Pieters train station. When it closed its doors in 2019, two smaller branches were opened at the Rooigemlaan and close to Dampoort. But now, with Bike Republic Sint-Denijs-Westrem, there will be a new large store in the Ghent area with a store surface of more than 1,000 m², an extensive collection and stock of bicycles, and an indoor test track. Through its network of 24 stores, Bike Republic has a stock of more than 10,000 bikes, of which around 7,000 are e-bikes. So, in Sint-Denijs-Westrem as well, customers can be sure of a quickly deliverable electric bike, speedpedelec, folding bike, city bike or touring bike from brands like Gazelle, Kettler, Koga, Dolly, Brompton or Hiron. And one can also go there for a for a nice selection of race bikes, gravel bikes and mountain bikes from top brands such as Ridley, Scott, BH and Bulls.

'Travelling companion' in the city and just outside of it

With the opening of the store in Sint-Denijs-Westrem, Bike Republic wants to become an even better 'travelling companion' for the cyclists in and around Ghent. Wim Teerlynck, managing director of Bike Republic: "We want customers to be able to rely on us, so that all they have to do is enjoy the ride in a care-free manner. That is why - in addition to service and craftsmanship - we also focus on accessibility. The advantage of having three stores in Ghent is that both people who live in the city centre and residents of the suburbs can easily and quickly reach a Bike Republic. If you would like to choose from our complete collection, you can for example order a bike at Bike Republic in Sint-Denijs-Westrem and have it delivered to one of our stores at the Dampoort or Rooigemlaan. The same applies to maintenance: no matter where you have bought your bicycle, you are welcome in every Bike Republic store to have it serviced.

Companies can also turn to Bike Republic

Bike Republic Sint-Denijs-Westrem is not only open to private persons. It is also possible for companies and SMEs to buy or lease their company bikes there. To support and de-worry business leaders or HR managers from A to Z, the B2B department of Bike Republic even draws up tailor-made bike plans. This way, employers can easily make the mobility of their co-workers more sustainable and, above all, more efficient. Not unimportant in times of sky-high fuel prices.

Festive opening on Saturday 14 May

In the past years, having festive store openings was difficult due to corona. However, in Sint-Denijs-Westrem it is possible again. That is why on Saturday 14 May the first customers will be welcomed with a drink. Everyone can view our extensive collection of bicycles and test them on the test track.
