Fresh, local or 'zero waste' products
The fresh products department at Spar Queue-du-Bois feels like a real market and the supply of local products reinforces this feeling. "The quality of our fresh products is our top priority!", says entrepreneur Christophe. "We want to draw attention to them and focus on local products." For this purpose, the three entrepreneurs work with local producers, such as a winegrower or the cheese maker from the village. Christophe: "We also work with a small business which invents sustainable solutions for the packaging of food products for instance." Indeed, the revamped Spar store also stakes on zero waste products by offering them in bulk (such as dried fruit and pasta). Or with the "Wallowash", a dispenser for ecological household products where customers can refill the same packaging over and over again.
Completely new and larger store
The Spar store in Queue-du-Bois closed its doors one month for the renovation work. The surface increased from 450 to 650 m². Co-entrepreneur Stéphane: "To expand the store and the assortment for our customers, we bought the adjacent building." The supermarket was organised according to the style of the latest Spar store generation. "We now have new, more modern installations, the entrance hall is new, the wine department looks completely different and the butcher's shop and bakery moved", says Stéphane. The bakery is now near the entrance and the butcher's shop moved down to the ground floor. "In this way, we can welcome our customers with the delicious smell of freshly baked bread, and they can immediately see the butcher", Christophe adds.
Family business
Spar Queue-du-Bois is located along the main traffic route of the village, which is an interesting location for many local residents. Christophe: "Since my father bought this store 13 years ago, we are the only supermarket left so close to the village. We know all our customers and they know us!" By choosing Spar, Christophe and Stéphane's father chose to be part of a Belgian distribution chain and to create the welcoming atmosphere of Spar stores. "Indeed, we are a real family business", says Stéphane. "My father, my brother and I run the store whereas mother takes care of the butcher's shop and the administration." There are ten people working in this shop, among whom a butcher and a person in charge of cold cuts. They are all looking forward to welcoming their customers at the opening drink on 4 March as from 6 pm.
