Colruyt Hannut reopens and is almost 1.5 times its former size

On Wednesday 14 November, the Colruyt store in Hannut reopens after a few months of renovation work. The store has been expanded, completely rearranged and restyled into a new-generation low-energy Colruyt store. The self-service butcher's shop was also completely revamped and 16 places were added to the car park. Finally, two extra employees joined the team.

Shopping more efficiently in a larger store

The store was completely reorganised and is now 1.5 times its former size. As a result, the range of food products is larger now, especially in the fresh market and the frozen products department. Ten checkout posts (2 more than before) help the co-workers serve their customers more smoothly. Furthermore, two extra persons joined the team. And the car park has 144 places, 16 more than before the alterations.

For customers who want to save time, Colruyt Hannut has a Collect&Go pick-up point. Collect&Go is Colruyt Group's online shopping service.

"When making renovations, we always aim at simplicity and the lowest costs, as our customers expect from us", says store manager Didier Gilissen.

Low-energy store goal = - 4% CO2 emission

Colruyt Hannut has become a low-energy store: the insulation of the front and roof is better and the store is finished hermetically. The store also switches to sustainable technology with a propane-fuelled cooling system, solar panels and heat recovery from the ventilation. "This project is part of a more comprehensive renovation plan: by 2029, all Colruyt Group stores should be low-energy stores", says the store manager. "The group's CO2 emissions have to go down by 4%."

Butcher's department with open workshop

Customers can choose their fresh quality meat in the self-service butcher's department where they have a better overview of the meat product range. Cold sliced meat and salads that used to be sold in the fresh market moved to the butcher's department. Head butcher Christof Depae: "Customers can see the butchers at work in an open workshop and talk to them if they have questions or a special order."

Special open house

From Wednesday 14 November, store manager Didier Gilissen, head butcher Christof Depae and their 47 employees will be on hand to welcome customers at the renovated Colruyt Hannut.
"The evening before, on Tuesday 13 November from 5 to 8 pm, everyone is invited for a store preview", says the store manager. "During this special open house, we will offer our customers snacks and a drink. Everyone is most welcome!"
