Brand-new Spar Wenduine reopens on 27 June

Pleasant shopping experience with emphatic focus on fresh

The Spar Colruyt Group store in Wenduine will be reopening its doors on Thursday, 27 June, after a complete renovation with a major focus on sustainability. Hilde Leenknegt and Ivan Kuyle, an entrepreneurial couple with no less than 25 years of experience as supermarket operators, are at the helm.“We are looking forward to it,” Hilde and Ivan tell us enthusiastically. “We have been looking forward to welcoming our customers to our brand-new Spar store for weeks now!

Demolished and rebuilt

The old Spar in Wenduine has made way for a brand-new 1,000 m² sustainable supermarket that will open on Thursday, 27 June. Operators Hilde and Ivan: “The old store was completely demolished and replaced by a state-of-the-art establishment that meets the strictest building standards. The store is easily accessible by tram and is 100 metres from the dyke. Customers can rely on a motivated team of 14 permanent members of personnel from the region. During the summer months, we supplement our team with 15 students and flexi personnel,” Hilde and Ivan explain.

Focus on fresh products

The revamped Spar Wenduine follows the concept of the latest generation of Spar Colruyt Group stores, which put a premium on shopping convenience and good food. “We believe that the best times are mealtimes,” Hilde and Ivan say with great conviction. “That’s why we focus on an extensive range of fresh products that we prepare, cut, and pack on site in both the charcuterie, cheese, and catering section and fresh meat section.” The operators have also invested heavily in the bakery section. “This is where we let our rolls and baguettes rise and where we bake them,” the couple explains. “The result is crispy and completely delicious.

Minimal environmental footprint

Like Colruyt Group’s other store formats, Spar attaches great importance to sustainable construction, ensuring the lowest possible environmental impact. “A sustainable CO2 system with heat recovery in combination with underfloor heating was chosen for the cooling system,” Hilde and Ivan explain. “Wherever possible, the fridges were fitted with glass doors to reduce consumption and CO2 emissions to the maximum.

Festive reopening

The store will open its doors on Thursday, 27 June. And the special opening folder in the opening week will feature some great discounts. “We won’t let the opening weekend pass by quietly, either. That’s when we’ll treat our customers to a variety of samples,” Hilde and Ivan promise, “as a local neighbourhood store, we want to make it a cosy and tasty start for everyone!
