Brand-new Colruyt Lede reopens as low-energy store

New store one third larger than before

On Wednesday 21 November, the new Colruyt store in Lede opens its doors. The brand-new supermarket is in the same location as the former store that was completely demolished. It has been expanded by one third. Consequently, customers can find an even larger assortment, a brand-new butcher's department and a Collect&Go pick-up point, and 3 extra co-workers can set to work. Moreover, Colruyt Lede is now a low-energy store with optimum insulation and ventilation as well as solar panels on the roof.

The former Colruyt store in Lede had become too small to shop comfortably.

"That is why we completely tore it down and built a new one"

, says store manager Vincent De Meyer.

"During construction work, we made sure our customers could continue to benefit from the lowest prices in their area close to home in a temporary store along the Kleiweg."

Complete assortment on 1.850 m²

"The new store is almost 1.850 m² big, more than a third larger than the old one", says the store manager. "A larger store means a larger range of products, in the frozen products department and the fresh market for instance. It also means we have enough work for three extra co-workers. Ten checkout stations to ensure a fluent service. And a new, larger car park with 128 places."

Butcher's department with open workshop

Customers can choose their fresh quality meat in the self-service butcher's department. Head butcher Geert Goeman: "Customers can see the butchers at work in an open workshop and talk to them if they have questions or a special order. They also have a nice overview of the range of meat, cold cuts and salads.”

Collect&Go shops for the customers

As in the temporary store, Colruyt Lede has a brand-new Collect&Go pick-up point. Collect&Go is a handy Colruyt Group service, where we shop for the customers. They give us their shopping list online or by means of the app. The products are ready for them at the pick-up point by the day and time they chose.

Low-energy store 4 % less CO2

Colruyt Lede has become a low-energy store: the outer walls and roof are insulated better. Moreover, the store is more hermetic than before. It is also equipped with sustainable technology such as a refrigeration system with propene, heat recovery from the ventilation and solar panels on the roof. "This project is part of a more comprehensive renovation plan: by 2029, all Colruyt Group stores should be low-energy stores", says Vincent De Meyer. "The group's CO2 emissions have to down by 4 %.”

Extra care for trees

Colruyt has taken many initiatives in Lede to preserve the trees in the neighbourhood. In consultation with a tree surgeon, we pruned the tree crowns and secured them by means of cables. This makes them stronger and the parking places safer. We provided extra soil so the trees can take root better. In order to protect them even more, we added a twined chestnut hedge. And the bike path goes round the trees instead of in between. For this work, Colruyt chose material that is as pervious to water as possible.

Special open evening

From Wednesday 21 November, store manager Vincent De Meyer, head butcher Geert Goeman and their 48 co-workers will welcome their customers at the new Colruyt Lede. "The evening before everyone can come and discover the new store", says the store manager. "During this special open evening, from 5 to 8 pm, we will gladly offer our customers a snack and a drink. Everyone is most welcome!"
