Third Bio-Planet in Walloon Brabant

Bio-Planet opens its 31st store and the ninth in Wallonia. It is also the first in eastern Walloon Brabant. Fabrice Gobbato, Director of Bio-Planet: “We are opening two to three stores per year in Wallonia. Corbais is located in the heart of a rural and residential region where there is great interest in sustainable products. We have therefore decided to open our third shop in the province.” The new supermarket employs 12 employees. It is located on rue Haute, at the crossroads with the Grand-Route (formerly the Nationale 4) and therefore benefits from easy and central access in this large area.

Sale of bulk products

To meet customers’ expectations wishing to avoid packaging and to take away the desired quantity of products in their own containers (bags, boxes, bottles, etc.), Bio-Planet is expanding its range of bulk products beyond the fresh food area. Fabrice Gobbato: “At this stage, the products concerned are dried fruit, nuts, breakfast cereals, grains and snacks. It is also a way of pursuing our objectives to reduce plastic packaging.” This concept will be implemented in Corbais before being applied to the whole chain.

A 100% sustainable product range

Over 600 m², the Bio-Planet in Corbais offers a complete range of healthy, environmentally-friendly, organic and fair trade products. The cheeses, vegetarian products and fresh meat products are cut and prepared on-site. Furthermore, Bio-Planet offers a wide range of products for people suffering from food allergies or intolerances, as well as an entire range of plant-based products for flexitarians, vegetarians and vegans. In order to prioritise short supply chains, the Bio-Planet in Corbais is committed to expanding its range of regional products as much as possible. A list of local suppliers is also displayed in-store.

Sustainable construction

Insulation, ventilation, heating, lighting… Great attention has been paid to the sustainable characteristics of the store. For example, the refrigeration installation runs on propane and emits approximately 90% less greenhouse gases than a conventional one. Fabrice Gobbato: “The ventilation system automatically adjusts to the air quality and enables us to avoid a 30% loss of energy.” Electricity consumption is reduced by 30% thanks to LED lighting. The partially green façade and roof contribute to insulating the building, while supporting biodiversity. Finally the 49-space car park has two charging stations for electric cars and bicycles, as well as covered spaces for bicycles.

Opening celebration

Bio-Planet cordially invites the inhabitants of the region to discover the new store during an opening celebration on Tuesday 29 October, from 5 p.m. The official opening is planned for Wednesday 30 October. The Bio-Planet in Corbais will be open from Monday to Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. and on Fridays until 8 p.m.
