Next Friday marks the opening weekend of Bike Republic in Chênée. With this new store, Bike Republic is also writing a new chapter, as this is the first store in Wallonia for the bicycle specialist of Colruyt Group. The bicycle chain has chosen Liège for a good reason: it’s a city with enormous cycling potential. The 900 m² store on Boulevard de Beaufraipont in Chênée will offer a wide range of e-bikes, speed pedelecs, racing bikes, mountain and gravel bikes, cargo bikes, and longtails. In short: everything for those who want to make their mobility more sustainable and efficient. Of course, customers can also rely on the service of the experienced bicycle technicians. Now that spring is in the air, Bike Republic welcomes everyone to the workshop where experienced technicians assist with the maintenance and repair of all types of bicycles.

Getting to know cyclists in Wallonia

Bike Republic wants to always be a companion for its customers. Someone who rides with them and whom they can rely on, so they can enjoy the ride without worries. The bicycle specialist of Colruyt Group wants to get to know the customer with this first store in Wallonia and bring the same service and accessibility that is also offered in Flanders and Brussels.

The choice for Liège is not coincidental, as the 5th largest city in Belgium has enormous cycling potential. Bike Republic realizes that the Walloon bicycle market is not a copy-paste of what is known in Flanders. There are clear geographical, political, and cultural differences. In the south, the bicycle is used less for commuting. A striking example of this is the speed pedelec market, 95% of the speed pedelecs sold in Belgium are registered in Flanders. According to a federal survey1 of companies in 2021, the share of bicycles in total commuting traffic in Wallonia was 2.4%, while in Flanders it was 20.8%. Brussels also had a backlog in 2005 but has made a huge catch-up movement in the last 15 years.

The government in and around Liège has invested in cycling infrastructure in recent years. It is wonderful to cycle along the banks of the Meuse through Liège. Bike Republic sees fertile ground to establish a real cycling culture and wants to contribute to that. At the same time, they look forward to learning more about the Walloon market and cyclists.

Bike Republic also Focuses on Maintenance and Repair

Each store has its own workshop with experienced bicycle technicians. Bike Republic has the largest network of professionals in the sector in Belgium and has built expertise through knowledge transfer. The bicycle market has evolved enormously in recent years, think of the exponential growth of electric cycling. Bike Republic continuously invests in the knowledge and skills of its employees through its own training programs at the Bike Academy. This enables the chain to quickly and efficiently carry out repairs on a wide range of bicycles and bicycle brands. Bike Republic not only wants to sell bicycles but also get more people on the bike. A quality, well-maintained bicycle is therefore essential.

Bike Republic has the largest network of bicycle stores and service points in Belgium. Not only individuals can rely on them: companies and SMEs can also purchase or lease their company bicycles from Bike Republic. To support and relieve business leaders and HR managers from A to Z, Bike Republic’s B2B department even puts together a tailor-made bicycle plan. This way, employers can easily make their employees’ mobility more sustainable and, above all, more efficient.
