A brand-new Colruyt is to open in Braine-le-Comte: a functional and sustainable store
On Wednesday 11 September 2024, a new Colruyt Lowest Prices store is opening its doors on Chemin du Pont in Braine-le-Comte. From now on, residents of this region will also be able to enjoy a wide range of quality products at the lowest prices close to home. The building has been designed so that customers can shop there as efficiently as possible. In addition to a wide range of fresh and frozen foods, the store features a state-of-the-art butcher’s section, a modern bread stand and a Collect&Go collection point. During the construction, particular attention was paid to the sustainability of the facilities.
A store designed to offer a unique shopping experience
At the new Colruyt Lowest Prices store in Braine-le-Comte, customers can take advantage of the 1,500 m² of retail space to choose from a very wide range of quality products, both major brands and own brands, and always at the lowest prices. The in-store journey is designed to make the shopping experience as pleasant and efficient as possible. Store manager Laurent Vermeulen explains: “Our latest-generation butcher’s section is equipped with closed, transparent refrigerators. You'll find quality fresh meat and a full range of charcuterie there. You can see our qualified butchers at work in an open workshop, which makes it easier to communicate if you have any questions or specific orders.” The modern bread stand offering fresh, pre-packaged bread is also well worth a visit.
Welcome to Collect&Go
In Braine-le-Comte, customers can also visit the Collect&Go collection point, Colruyt Group’s online shopping service. They send in their shopping list via the Xtra app or the collectandgo.be website, and the personnel prepare their products at the collection point for the chosen time.
Special focus on sustainability
The entire design of the new building in Braine-le-Comte is based on one of Colruyt Group’s key values: sustainability. This low-energy store uses no fossil fuels. It runs on green electricity, thanks in part to solar panels. Rainwater is managed intelligently, and is used in particular for flushing toilets. In the event of excessive rainfall, permeable clinkers allow water to run off and discharge the sewer system. The green roof is covered with moss, succulents and grasses that provide insulation against the heat.
The building is equipped with a recovery system for the heat produced by the refrigeration system. What’s more, this installation uses propane as its refrigerant, reducing the CO2 footprint by almost 90%. Thanks to motion detectors, the energy-efficient LED lighting only comes on when it’s needed, saving a further 30%. As a result, the store has received an excellent energy rating. Finally, the 115-space car park, including three spaces for disabled people, is equipped with six charging points for 12 electric vehicles and 14 extra-wide racks for storing bicycles or cargo bikes in complete safety.
Open evening on Tuesday, 10 September
Store manager Laurent Vermeulen concludes: “My team of 18 store personnel and seven butchers and I can’t wait to welcome our customers. We’re inviting them to get a sneak preview of the store at our open evening on Tuesday, 10 September, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome!”
